INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITIES

The real world starts NOW.

Class of 2017 students Abbie Collette, Mae Rosenstein, and Sylvie Rosenstein worked with the Maine Medical Center Research Institute for a year-long internship.

Baxter Academy aims to provide opportunities for our high school students to integrate and collaborate with community organizations within our Portland campus boundaries and beyond. Internship opportunities vary in length and scope: some students have worked on projects with specific deliverables and timeframes, while others have explored professional settings to simply gain experience.

David Oken, class of 2018, has spent his Flex Friday year researching and shadowing a variety of career paths.

Flex friday internships

Each year, Flex Friday expands in scope and reach to involve more community partnerships and real-world learning. In the 2022 school year, 40 students were out of the building every Friday participating in year-long internships.

PARTNERSHIPS

At Baxter Academy, we believe students learn what matters most by being integrated directly into the work of the world. We collaborate with a robust network of responsive real-world partners who provide mentorship, internships, and opportunities for students to work within—and solve problems for—our community.

If you do work in Maine—whether in a STEM field, or social services, or creative arts—Baxter wants to connect you with our students. We think you’ll soon witness the value of having young minds become acquainted with the most urgent problems you face and with your search for solutions.
