We are a STEM-focused college preparatory public high school in downtown Portland that is FREE to Maine students. Our inquiry-based learning approach has included award-winning work with robotics, genetics, ocean plastics, design, and chess. We welcome students from all backgrounds and are proud to help our community succeed with our innovative pedagogy. We solve complex, real-world problems in a collaborative and inclusive environment, that encourages students to pursue their academic passions. Join us.

Baxter Academy offers: an adventure every day - either in the classroom or out in the community visiting leading educational, industry, and community institutions.

  • A STEM curriculum emphasizing real-world problem solving, paired with a humanities program that connects ideas across disciplines and cultivates strong communication skills.

  • A creative, dynamic faculty that meets students where they are and challenges them to drive their education

  • Opportunity for students to learn by doing and learn from failure, through our Flex Friday program

  • A network of resources beyond the classroom. Students participate in job shadows, industry tours, internships, and real-world inquiries that connect them to professionals regularly.

  • The support system to create a post-high school plan. Whether it is starting a business, entering a trade, or attending a secondary school.

Join Us for a Tour

Join our Baxter Academy Student Ambassadors on a campus tour. Tours will be offered Mondays, Tuesdays, and Fridays during school days. Tours run 45 minutes on average. To Apply:

Applications to join us for the 2025-2026 school year will open on December 1st at 9 AM.

Current 9th, 10th, and 11th grade students can also apply to transfer in to any available seats for the Spring semester below.
