Anytime/Anywhere & Snow Day Learning

Anytime/Anywhere Learning

There are three Anytime/Anywhere Learning days during any given school year. These days allow faculty to engage in professional development that includes, but is not limited to, grading and norming, developing standards-based grading and assessment, and design thinking work.

For students, this is an opportunity to explore areas of learning outside of the classroom - and make it count as a school day. According to the DOE and the Charter Commission, we need a minimum of 80% student participation - and evidence of participation - in order for these days to count toward our Snow Day bank. More work during these days means fewer make-up days in June.

What does learning look like outside the classroom?

Please note: Baxter does not provide transportation on Anytime/Anywhere Learning Days.

Snow Day Learning

We watch winter storms carefully here at Baxter. Since many of our public school students are traveling at least an hour each day - and still more travel nearly two hours each day - safety must be our biggest priority.  The decision to cancel school due to weather is made in concert with our Director of Operations, our charter bus service, our Executive Director, and Head of School. If Baxter cancels school, students and families will be notified as soon as possible via text, email, social media, and local news.

Students will be notified via email if Baxter will be observing a Snow Day Learning Day during the cancellation period. Teachers will post assignments by 8:00 AM via Google Classroom. Assignments may include a reading, video, reflection on work or plans, or other activity that supports the coursework of the class. Each assignment should not take more than 40 minutes to complete.

Students must submit evidence of this work via their teacher’s Google Classroom. Remember: In order for the school day to count, we must have 80% of the student body participating.

If your child does not have access to the internet, please let their teachers know, so they can plan for this.
