A Message from the Principal:
Good evening, all,
As you know, we took measures here today to safeguard our computer network. One thing I want to correct is the idea that anystudent helped set up our computer network at Baxter. Unified Technology installed Baxter’s system and maintains it. Any access to the system by a student would be an unsanctioned breach.
This system-wide check today was prudent given that our school was linked through one of our students to e-mailed threats at another school. In the spirit of caution, we advise all of you to change passwords on any computers your students may have used at school.
Part of what makes our program strong is that students at our school learn in a technology-rich environment. This comes with responsibility. When we know that students have not lived up to that responsibility, action is taken to curtail their access and to educate them about the risks and obligations of being a responsible citizen at Baxter and in the greater community, virtual and real.
As for student involvement with school computers, there was a tech team last year that worked under close supervision of the IT manager to install software on the new fleet of computers. The tech team is not in existence this year yet and has no bearing on anything happening this week.
