Welcoming Julia Kosowsky

We are excited to announce the hiring of science teacher Julia Kosowsky. She will be teaching STEM for 9th grade as well as Earth Science for Engineering Pathway.

Julia comes to Baxter Academy after spending the year teaching on wooden boats on both the east and west coasts and engaging with expeditionary learning. After earning her undergraduate degree from Tufts University, Julia taught high school science in Eastern Kentucky where she developed skills around student-centered inquiry learning. Julia is passionate about students recognizing their potential in the world and all that they are capable of as problem solvers. She is excited to support students in thinking critically and recognizing how interconnected they are to their peers, their community, and the world as a whole.

Parent Advisory Feedback Survey

Thank you to those of you who made time to complete the Parent Advisory Feedback Survey. Your feedback is invaluable; we will continue to leave the survey open for more families to participate. Please look for updates and opportunities soon as we identify ways we can strengthen our communication with you.

SLCs

On November 13th, we will be holding Student Led Conferences. By now, you should have received communication from your child’s advisor about how to sign up for a meeting. We recognize that one characteristic of the Baxter Community is a geographical diversity that makes it a challenge for some to meet face to face, but we value your participation and feedback, and are happy to make alternate arrangements. If this date and time frame does not work for you, do not hesitate to create a plan for a meeting via skype, phone, or setting up another in-person meeting time. We would like to connect with as many families as possible.

Flex Friday Mid-Semester Reflections

One component of the SLCs this year will be your child’s mid-semester Flex Friday reflection. The focus will be on organization, productivity, and time management. There will also be space for your child’s Flex Friday sponsor to share their feedback. Students will work on the reflection this week and next, and you can expect sponsors to share it with you by November 13th.

There are still two training dates scheduled for November 8th and November 29th. Sign up for a session here. A reminder that general information and Slate login can be accessed here.
